LBI -- the short term for Long Beach Island located in Ocean County on the Jersey Shore-- consists of a string of communities on a long, narrow island off the Jersey coast: Summer rentals abound in Beach Haven, Harvey Cedars, Ship Bottom, and Surf City. Long Beach Township has given a name to its every beach and families return year after year to their favorite summer rental : Beach Haven Crest, Beach Haven Gardens, Beach Haven Harbor, etc. and all the other special beaches of Long Beach Island: Holgate, Loveladies, North Beach, Brant Beach, Brighton Beach, Spray Beach, or the Dunes. Summer long recreation can be found in Barnegat Light State Park at the northern tip where Old Barney an historic lighthouse on Barnegat Bay watches over the many fishing boats and is open to tourists in the summer season. Many recreational activities are offered for families with children. These include the Bay Beach aka The Kiddie Beach, volleyball, basketball, bicycling, jogging and hikes near in Barnegat Light.
